4 Common Furnace Repairs

There’s nothing worse than discovering that your furnace doesn’t work. Although it’s natural to feel a bit of panic when this happens, the cause of the problem could be relatively minor. Here are four problems that heating and air conditioning contractors frequently encounter, along with the furnace repairs needed to fix them.

  1. The furnace doesn’t come on at all: This could be caused by a faulty thermostat. Check to make sure the battery doesn’t need replacing. If that’s not the issue, it may need recalibrating. You may also want to upgrade your thermostat, especially if you don’t have a programmable model already. Another possibility is a problem with the oil burner.
  2. The furnace runs, but shuts off after five minutes or so: The flame sensor may be dirty or may need to be replaced.
  3. The furnace blower runs all the time: Look at your thermostat to make sure the fan switch hasn’t been activated. (It should be set to “Off” or “Auto.”)
  4. The furnace doesn’t blow any air: There may be a problem with the belt that runs from the motor to the blower.

If you suspect that you need furnace repairs, don’t try to fix them yourself. These machines are complicated and it can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. Instead, call the professionals at Swift Brothers.
